The Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Ltd. (ABC) saga began in the year 1870, at the Shankara Kudege estate in Chikmagalur. Today, several eventful chapters later, with 10,000 acres under cultivation, a wide umbrella of activity encompassing coffee exports, commodity trading and retailing, ABC finds itself in exalted company as one of the largest integrated coffee companies in Asia. ABC tested retail waters with its first 'Fresh n Ground' outlet in 1995 and the first 'Café Coffee Day' on Brigade Road in 1996. Thereon it has broken into a large-stride, rapid take-off run, along the way introducing another retail format - Coffee Day Xpress, an Investment consultancy firm - Way2Wealth and several other ventures. Presently, with over 900 cafes and outlets in India, Pakistan, Austria and Czech Republic, ABC is already one of Asia’s top integrated coffee companies. Even as ABC prepares to soar, a sneak preview into future chapters of this saga will reveal plans to expand and extend into a number of other countries, as well.
